Going to Texas later today for the first time since I left Lubbock in 2004. No, not going to Lubbock this time. I am going to El Paso for a meeting of the NIOSH research project Strategic Research Translation for Immigrant Workers. I like El Paso. For a long time I was convinced I was going to live and work there. But it didn't happen. I am not even going to UTEP this time (Don Manuelito and I have a joke about going to UTEP and offering a cluster hire of Latino faculty in technical writing, computer science, and linguistics). Then I come back to VA to do lots of work and on the week of the 19th I go back to Texas (twice in a month after 5 years)... this time to San Antonio/San Totonio/Santo Tonio/Santo Toño to present a paper on a macroergonomic approach to Hispanic construction worker safety at the meeting of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. The awesome thing is that in both trips to Texas I will get to hang out with some very good former students.
